Frilled sharks are deep-sea sharks that were living since prehistoric times. Thus are called living fossils because they have changed very little over the years. Called "frilled" because these sharks have six gills instead of the normal five that most other sharks have.

An eel-like creature, the frilled shark are very slim and colored brown. The gill slits protrude somewhat from the sides of the shark with the first slit goes continuously under the throat. These sharks usually grow up to 4.5 feet (2 meters). Its jaws are terminal (in front of the eyes) and anal fins and pectoral fins are very small. His close relative is the Dwarf Frilled Lantern-Shark.
